«… Come quasi tutti gli uffici, gli studi di graphic design sono piccoli mondi, con i loro usi e costumi. Nel corso degli ultimi due anni ho scritto su M/M un libro di cui GTF ha curato la veste grafica. La prolungata frequentazione dello studio parigino di M/M e di quello londinese di GTF mi ha dato la straordinaria opportunità di osservare i due gruppi di designer nel loro habitat e in quello dei colleghi in circostanze relativamente comparabili e quindi intraprendere uno studio in scala ridotta e assolutamente non scientifico sul tema. Benché in qualche modo falsato dal ruolo di cliente di M/M, il progetto è stato fonte di dettagliate discussioni sulla storia e i prodotti di entrambe le ditte e di inedite opportunità di osservare i designer alle prese con le loro attività quotidiane. Le differenze circostanziali e temperamentali tra il gruppo londinese e quello parigino sono abbastanza pronunciate. I componenti di M/M e di GTF erano molto amici anche prima di aprire i loro studi all’inizio degli anni novanta, eppure, nel corso dei successivi vent’anni, hanno creato due mondi grafici che, nonostante alcuni punti di contatto, sono molto lontani l’uno dall’altro. …»

«… Graphic design studios, like most offices, are worlds in themselves, with their own customs and laws. For the last couple of years I have been writing a book about M/M that is being designed by GTF. Spending time in their Paris and London studios, observing both sets of designers in their own and each other’s habitats in relatively comparable circumstances has offered a unique opportunity to undertake a miniature and entirely unscientific study. Although slightly distorted by M/M’s role as client, the project has given rise to detailed discussions about the history and output of both firms and opportunities for watching the designers go about their day-to-day activities. The differences in circumstance and temperament between the London and Parisian peers are marked. M/M and GTF were close friends even before they founded their studios at the start of the 1990s, yet, in the twenty years since they have created two graphic worlds that, while they do intersect at points, are quite distinct.
Followers of graphic design are often surprised that the principals of M/M and GTF even know each other, let alone that they have a strong personal and professional friendship. …»
