«Le constat du manque criant d’un lieu consacré au graphisme à Paris nous a conduit à fonder la Galerie Anatome en septembre 1999.»
Sono ormai passati dieci anni da quando Galerie Anatome è stata fondata per sostenere e diffondere la grafica, inizialmente come prolungamento dell’agenzia Anatome, di Marie-Anne Couvreu che è direttrice della galleria (si veda online una interessante intervista).
La Galerie organizza durante l’anno mostre monografiche e tematiche – nelle fotografie alcune immagini dalla più recente, dedicata a due studi canadesi, Paprika e Seripop (fino al 24 luglio 2010) – ma è anche la sede di altre iniziative dedicate a valorizzare e promuovere la cultura contemporanea del graphisme – conferenze, incontri, pubblicazioni. Dal 2000 la galleria è inoltre la sede degli appuntamenti mensili organizzati dai Rencontres de Lure, dedicati alla tipografia e alla grafica; e dallo stesso anno ospita inoltre una libreria specializzata, gestita in collaborazione con la famosa libreria La Hune.
Dal 1999 la Galerie e l’associazione a essa collegata sono certamente cresciute, costruendo una rete internazionale di connessioni composta da studenti, grafici, ma anche appassionati e curiosi, insomma una sorta di piccolo mondo del graphic design che pulsa proprio nel cuore di Parigi, in rue Sedaine.
Eppure, considerate le motivazioni iniziali del progetto, è probabilmente un indice significativo che ancora oggi la galleria rimanga l’unico spazio espositivo permanente dedicato alla grafica non solo nella capitale francese ma in tutta la Francia.
Come hanno ribadito recentemente i fondatori della galleria, Couvreu e Henri Meynadier, la battaglia è tutt’altro che vinta, al contrario: «le combat pour la qualité» non è conclusa.
Ed è per questo che nel 2009 la Galerie ha lanciato un proprio manifesto, rilanciando il proprio impegno per la diffusione della grafica e per il miglioramento dell’ambiente visivo della società contemporanea: «Ensemble nous continuerons ce combat».

Galerie Anatome / The struggle continues
«It was the realisation of a crying need for a graphics space in Paris that lead us to found the Galerie Anatome in September 1999.»
Over ten years have passed since the Galerie Anatome was founded in Paris to support graphics and graphic design – it started as an extension communication agency Anatome, of Marie-Anne Couvreu who is still the director of the gallery (here you can read an interview with her). Galerie Anatome organizes monographic and thematic exhibitions throughout the year — in the pictures some shots from the most recent show, dedicated to two Canadian teams, Paprika and Seripop (until July 24, 2010). But the gallery, together with the association that supports it, is also home to other initiatives dedicated to enhancing and promoting contemporary graphisme — conferences, meetings, publications. Since 2000, the gallery is also home to the monthly meetings organized by the renown Rencontres de Lure, devoted to typography and graphics, and since the same year it also houses a bookshop, run in collaboration with the bookshop La Hune.
Certainly, since 1999 the Galerie and the association have grown, developing an international network of connections, made of students, graphic designers, but also passionate and curious people. Indeed Galerie Anatome has built a sort of little world of graphic design that beats in the heart of Paris, in rue Sedaine.
Yet, given the initial aims of the project, it is probably significant that the Galerie remains still today the only permanent exhibition space focused on graphics not just in Paris but in France.
As the founders of the gallery — Couvreu and Henri Meynadier — recently wrote, the «battle for quality is far from won».
And that is why in 2009 the Galerie launched a manifesto, confirming once more its agenda and commitment in promulgating creative graphics and helping to boos the visual environment of contemporary society: «Together we shall continue the struggle».
